What options are available in the Toric 1-Day Modality?

(See the Video Here:  Video Quick Tip)

So your patient has astigmatism and wants to dispose of their lenses daily.  What do you do?  As contact lens fitters, we are fortunate to practice in a time when our options are ever increasing.  It used to be that when patients presented with astigmatism we had very few soft lens designs to offer outside of a custom made-to-order lens.  The recent release of Alcon’s Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus Toric option demonstrates how far we have come, not only in parameters but in modalities.

What other toric one day options do you offer in your practice?  A quick search on TheRightContact.com shows several options including 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism, Clariti 1-Day Toric, Clearsight 1-Day Toric, Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus Toric, Focus Dailies Toric and Soflens Daily Disposable Lenses for Astigmatism.

Lets take a quick look at these designs to see what their manufacturers are offering.

1-Day Acuvue Moist for Astigmatism

Looking at their website we can see some of the features that separates this lens from other designs, such as the “Blink Stabilized” technology, an excellent stability system.  We can also see the Lacreon technology, which is Vistakon’s effort to battle contact lens comfort embedding moisturizing agents into the matrix of the lens1.

At the time of this blog post, Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus Toric is not posted on the company website, but if you look at the Dailies Aqua Comfort plus spherical lenses, you can see some of the same features found in the toric option.  One of the major features is “blink activation” technology and how this helps the patient maintain moisture and comfort throughout the day4.
