This afternoon concluded another successful GSLS conference at the Rio Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. As noted in today’s edition of ‘Contact Lenses Today’, The 2013 Global Specialty Lens Symposium welcomed over 500 registered contact lens professionals from 32 different countries.
As expected, this conference brought together a powerful group of lecturers that revealed a wealth of information on current contact lens topics. Attendees were able to obtain Continuing Education credits while being updated on the latest research, products and fitting techniques.
Forty Six different companies were represented at the 2013 Global Specialty Lens Symposium. Many manufacturers used the opportunity of breakout sessions to update attendees on their latest products. Companies such as Blanchard Contact Lens offered smaller more intimate training sessions, with real patients for their new One Fit and One Fit Cone designs. Product releases were also an important part of the conference. Some of the notable new product releases included the ‘Custom Stable’ system from Valley Contax and the Rose K2 XL Semi-Scleral lens through Menicon.
Although the standard gas permeable and specialty soft lens market is quite large, there seems to be an overall trend of contact lens fitters moving toward scleral contact lenses. This trend was noted at this year’s GSLS as many of the sessions were dedicated toward these designs. It will be interesting to see how practitioners continue to embrace this re-emerging market.
The 2014 Global Specialty Lens Symposium has already been scheduled for January 23-26, 2014. Once again, this conference will be held within the Rio Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. Potential attendees can stay informed with conference specifics either through the Contact Lens Spectrum or directly through GSLSymposium.com.
